Abigail Simpson was born in 1991 in Nottinghamshire, England, and began writing at the age of six. She filled notebook after notebook with the adventures of a girl called Sarah and her talking doll, Anne. Then, in 2001, Abigail's family moved to New Zealand. Heartbroken and lonely, not to mention bored, the ten-year-old set about turning the adventures of Sarah and Anne into a proper novel.

Abigail won many writing competitions throughout high school. She twice received the New Zealand College Herald Editor's Choice Award, as well as a creative writing scholarship. At the University of Auckland, she studied Drama and Classical Studies, graduating with First Class Honours. She also wrote and directed a short play called The Infanta's Garden, which was well-received.

Now a freelance writer, actor and website maker, Abigail accepts commissions for various writing projects. She writes regularly for a number of websites, including Poms Away, Not Australia and My New Zealand Campervan Trip. One of her articles appeared in a New Zealand Listener story and she has twice been published on Stuff.co.nz. She writes for and performs on the stage, mostly in her adopted city of Hamilton, and her short story The Girl, the Cat and the Goblins has been nominated for a Sir Julius Vogel Award.
